To support Chinese international students in successfully completing their academic programs and adapting to life at Kathmandu University (KU), the China Higher Education Promotion Center has prepared this official notice. All Chinese students admitted to Kathmandu University must carefully read this guidance and follow its requirements.
Ensure that your passport is valid for at least six (6) months upon your intended date of travel.
Apply for the appropriate student visa in accordance with the Department of Immigration, Government of Nepal.
Bring all necessary documentation, including your official university acceptance letter.
It is recommended to carry both electronic backups and printed copies of important documents (passport and admission letter).
Medical systems and treatment costs in Nepal differ significantly from those in China. We strongly recommend that students purchase international health insurance prior to departure.
If you are carrying prescription medication, please also bring a doctor's certificate for customs and security inspections.
Download or print the university campus map and contact details for your academic department.
Complete all pre-departure training sessions organized by the Promotion Center to familiarize yourself with Nepalese culture, laws, climate, food habits, and safety practices.
Join the official WeChat/WhatsApp support group designated by the Center for ongoing assistance.
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, please follow all immigration procedures as instructed by airport officials.
Retain your arrival card and baggage claim tickets for verification and future use.
Upon arriving at KU, all international students must promptly:
Complete registration with your respective college or academic department.
Obtain your student ID, campus access card, and library card.
Submit your entry information and contact details to the Promotion Center for university records.
Many Chinese students enter Nepal on a tourist or short-term visa and must apply for a student visa within the prescribed period after arrival.
Required documents typically include:
• University enrollment confirmation
• Valid passport
• Passport-size photographs
• Proof of accommodation
The Promotion Center and International Affairs Office can provide guidance, but the visa application must be submitted in person at the Department of Immigration.
Students should familiarize themselves with the class schedule, registration system, examination formats, and academic calendar as soon as possible.
Courses are predominantly taught in English or Nepali, depending on the program. Students must ensure they meet relevant language proficiency requirements.
Strict attendance requirements apply. Poor attendance may affect credit eligibility and exam qualification.
Plagiarism, contract cheating, and all forms of academic dishonesty are strictly prohibited. Violations will be dealt with according to Kathmandu University’s academic policies and may result in disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal.
Should you encounter any difficulties related to language, coursework, or academic adjustment, contact your academic advisor, department international office, or the Promotion Center immediately.

Note: Fees are non-refundable if the applicant terminates the application or withdraws from the program for personal reasons.
Student withdrawal refers to voluntarily discontinuing enrollment at Kathmandu University.
Procedure:
The student or guardian must first communicate with the Head of the China Promotion Center and obtain approval.
Schedule an appointment with the Center to complete the withdrawal application, including a written explanation of reasons.
Refund Policy:
Withdrawal within one month of tuition payment: 50% of tuition refunded.
After one month: No refund.
Students are generally not permitted to change their major once enrolled.
Exceptions may be considered only under special circumstances and are subject to final university approval.
Please refer to the official class schedule distributed upon arrival for precise academic arrangements and semester dates.
When going out, travel in groups whenever possible and avoid going out alone late at night.
Safeguard your personal belongings at all times to prevent theft.
Traffic conditions in Nepal can be unpredictable. Exercise caution when walking or traveling on the road.
When using taxis or ride-hailing services, record the vehicle license plate number.
In the event of any of the following situations, contact your college and the Promotion Center immediately:
Lost passport
Medical emergencies
Legal issues
Threats to personal safety
Inability to continue studies or severe psychological distress
The Promotion Center can assist with contacting relevant university departments, medical facilities, or the Chinese Embassy in Nepal.
To encourage responsible financial habits and discourage excessive consumption:
Do not carry unnecessary cash or valuable items unless essential.
Students are responsible for the safekeeping of personal property, including money, keys, and electronic devices.
Avoid bringing excessive jewelry or luxury items.
Students must purchase insurance as required by immigration regulations and university guidelines. For insurance claims, submit all required documents to the insurance provider after treatment.
